Deep Drop Bowl

The Deep Drop process lets you create bowl shaped pieces which are deeper then items created with regular slumping molds. Heat and gravity are the two main ingredients to make this work.
The thickness of the blank needs to be sufficient to allow for the stretching during the dropping process. To demonstarte the stretching, I used 1" strips for the piece shown in the picture.
To achieve the drop, you lay the glass on a drop ring which has a cut out with the desired shape. After the heating and cooling cycle, the bowl looks something like in the picture to the left. Notice how much the strips in the vertical area stretched compared with the ones in the flat.
Remove the bowl from the drop ring and it looks already pretty interesting.
Last but not least you cut the rim off and polish the edge to the desired finish.
